BLUES AND SWING DANCING
IN NAARM (MELBOURNE)
Move your body, feel the music, make new friends!
5 - 6 - 7 - 8 ... Are you ready to dance?
Welcome to
THE NIGHT OWLS
We are Shob and Andy, founders of The Night Owls, Melbourne’s own Blues and Swing dance school. We met on the dance floor in 2004 and have been dancing, learning and growing together for 20 years. We feel so lucky to have discovered Swing and Blues dancing, and are constantly inspired by the endless possibilities of these incredible African American art forms. We love the way dance connects you to a partner and allows you both to improvise in the moment with the music…. bringing out out the best in each other.
OUR VISION is to build a dance community which is inclusive, inspiring, and gives opportunity for every level of dancer. We can't wait for you to join us.

TESTIMONIALS
Melissa Davey
Shob and Andy have created such a welcoming, joyous environment to learn blues in, while also honouring the history of the dance. If you are looking for a safe environment to try something new in, where you can build your confidence and have a lot of laughs while doing it, then these are the classes for you.
Boris Gorelik
Such a great environment to learn this most versatile dance. Shob and Andy share concepts and then show how to apply them in a fun and focused environment. And there’s a mini social at the end of every class to add to the goodness.
Meredith Eldridge
Shob and Andy's blues classes felt welcoming and supportive. They have clearly dedicated a lot of time and effort to understanding the roots of the dance, music and culture, and they share this knowledge in every class.
Jodie Foreman
Shob and Andy's ability to teach classes that are fun and engaging, whilst accommodating for students of a wide variety of levels, is second to none. They are wonderfully talented dancers and teachers.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
- We are so grateful to be teaching and dancing on the lands of the Wurundjeri people and pay deep respect to their elders past, present and emerging. We recognise and give thanks for their custodianship of the earth, seas and sky and welcome any Aboriginal or Torres Strait islander people to our community.
- We acknowledge that we participate as guests in this living culture of blues and jazz music and dance. These art forms, created by Black American communities, represent a triumph of human spirit, courage, creativity and resilience and we dance every step with gratitude and humility to the originators and hope to honour their legacy.
